An inmate at a northern Indiana jail who escaped after giving birth at a hospital has been captured.
Natasha Peters, 29, fled South Bend Memorial Hospital on Saturday after giving birth. She was found Sunday near the intersection of 8th and Pine Streets in Michigan City, Indiana, according to the LaPorte County sheriff's office.
Peters was initially taken to the Michigan City Police Department and later returned to the LaPorte County Jail, the sheriff's office said.
Detectives in the sheriff's department are investigating whether anyone assisted Peters in her escape.
The baby, who was born Wednesday, remained at the hospital while Peters was away, authorities said.
Peters was being held at the jail on a charge of armed robbery. Her trial is scheduled for November. She had been scheduled to return to the LaPorte County Jail on Sunday.
