At about 9:30 am, 20 vehicles -- cars and big rigs -- were involved in an accident that left one person dead.

Police don't have an official cause yet, but say it's likely a result of low visibility from lake effect snow.

It happened at mile marker 29, south of Chesterton.

A separate accident, about 100 yards west, involved 3 semis and one car. One person was sent to the hospital and has since died.

Lanes in both directions are now back open.
