‘Increase the Peace' Event Seeks to Inspire Change in Chicago's Most Violent Areas

A group of youth leaders is hoping to inspire change in the most violent neighborhoods in Chicago by starting a new series of events called “Increase the Peace.”

The events, run by the Resurrection Project, will see youth leaders camp out the entire night in some of the most troubled spots in the city, and will begin Friday night with a camp-out in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

“Enough is enough, and I want to be part of the solution. I want to be part of the change,” Berto Aguayo of The Resurrection Project said.

At the free events, the involved groups will provide resources for housing, daycare, job placement assistance, and they’ll also be registering voters.

“We are the future generation of this neighborhood, and we are the future generation of Chicago,” Youth Leader Mayra Martinez said. “It’s very important that we change the negatives.”
