1 Killed, 2 Injured in I-55 Shooting

State police diverted traffic a little after 2:30 a.m as the investigation began

A man died and two other individuals were injured after a shooting on I-55 early Saturday, police said, which caused traffic to be diverted for some hours.

The incident took place around 1:55 a.m. on I-55 northbound at Cicero Avenue, officials said.

Authorities said three people were found inside of the victim vehicle at the time of the shooting. The 27-year-old driver was found dead with apparent gunshot wounds, Illinois State Police said. A 16-year-old male suffered a non-life threatening injury and a 19-year-old female remained in critical condition as both were transported to Mount Sinai, police said.

All northbound traffic was diverted off the interstate at Harlem Avenue as officials investigated the incident but lanes later reopened as of 7:30 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
