Images of Suspects in Attack on Northwestern Law Student Released

Newly released surveillance photos show the faces of four people wanted in connection to a violent attack on a Northwestern University law student over the weekend.

The attacked happened at about 8 p.m. Sunday at Superior and Fairbanks in the Streeterville neighborhood. The student was walking to a birthday party when a group of three men and two women knocked him to ground and punched him repeatedly before stealing his laptop and cell phone, authorities said.

Valerie Maldonado is a student at Northwestern' business school.

"I got a little bit nervous because I get out of school at 9 p.m. and typically walk to the bus station on Michigan Avenue," Maldonado said. "Now that I'm walking to my car I'm looking around and making sure I'm aware of my surroundings."

Police responded Tuesday to another violent robbery in a Northwestern parking garage.

The victim was entering an elevator in the garage in the 200 block of East Huron when two men already in the elevator shoved her to the ground and took her cell phone, authorities said.

Word of the robberies spread quickly in the Streeterville neighborhood where most usually feel safe.

I was pretty scared," said Manuela Cabal. "I was disappointed too because we just moved down here two weeks ago and we walk everywhere."

Police continue to look for the individuals wanted in the first attack.

Northwestern is reminding students and those visiting it's Streeterville campus to be alert at all times and to use the emergency call boxes to summon police if any suspicious activity is seen.
