Illinois Tollway Publishes “Super List” of Business Scofflaws

Business who owe more than $1,000 in unpaid bills listed online

The public shaming has begun.

A day after Gov. Pat Quinn signed legislation making it legal, the Illinois Tollway published a "Super List" of businesses in the state that owe at least $1,000 in unpaid tolls, including the exact dollar amounts due.

Tollway officials say $300 million in tolls and fines remain unpaid since 2001, and hope that publicizing the names of businesses online will help goad them into paying up.

Topping the list of 157 businesses is Landa Trucking of Frankfort, who owes the Tollway close to $215,000 in unpaid tolls and fines.

More than 150 businesses are on the list, ranging from limo and cab companies, to Maywood's Fresh Start Learning Daycare, which checks in at No. 50 on the list with more than $19,000 in unpaid fines and tolls.

The businesses on the list owe close to $3.7 million. Tollway officials say each violator has been contacted at least nine times and offered opportunities to settle the debt or enter into a payment plan.

The list will be updated quarterly online.
