Small Plane Crashes in Illinois River Near Morris

A pilot and a passenger are safe after a small plane crashed into the Illinois River near Joliet on Wednesday afternoon. 

According to authorities, the small aircraft went in the water near Morris southwest of Joliet sometime before 2 p.m.

The pilot of the plane was able to swim to shore, walked to a roadway, and a passing motorist called 911, according to authorities. 

A passenger that was also in the plane managed to get out of the wreckage and climbed out of the water in Morris, police said. 

The pilot was treated and released at an area hospital. 

The FAA will investigate the crash, and the NTSB has been notified, according to officials.
