‘Vanished' Podcast Features Case of Retired Illinois Teacher Who Went Missing

Authorities found Dan Jarski’s van on parked in Kankakee County last month but they did not find him.

"I cant imagine Dan not checking in with us, with his boys," Bielski said. "I check the mail thinking I might get something. I just feel like something is very wrong because his van was found unlocked. That is out of character for him."

On Sept. 9, Jarski left his home in rural Grant Park. His car was found Sept. 11 in Serene State Park. The 62-year-old has not been seen or heard from since.

"Something feels wrong about whole situation," Bielski said.

She said her brother has enjoyed searching for old bottles in the past.

"When my brother did search for them he had a group of bottle diggers that would go with him," she said. "(A) squad of antique collectors."

Bielski organized search parties, started a Facebook group, everything she can think of to find her brother.

"If he would have tripped and fallen we would have found him by now," she said.

Authorities have searched in the air with drones and on the ground with ATVs and horses. Now his family is trying a podcast.

Dan’s case is featured on the podcast "Vanished."

Each week it looks at different missing persons cases. In episode 143, Jarski’s wife Janace talks about the disappearance of her husband of 22 years.

Leah says her brother would not just walk away or harm himself. She just wants him home, she said.

"Dan if you are out there, please call mom, or come home," she pleaded. "Let us know you are okay, we need you back."

Jarski retired from Andrew High School last year after teaching there for more than 20 years

On Saturday there will be a vigil of hope from him at Victor J. Andrew High School from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in Tinley Park.
