Due to “high levels of influenza cases” and the recommendation of medical officials, Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora has shuttered its campus for a week, the school said Monday in a letter to parents.
The campus closed at 5 p.m. Monday after information from the Kane County Health Department and a recommendation from Rush-Copley Medical Center officials, the school said. It will re-open next Monday.
Students were instructed to remain in their residence halls by until they were picked up by their parents Monday.
Students can sign up for a bus to Bloomington, Springfield and Fairview Height that will leave the campus Tuesday at 10 a.m.
“During the closure, the buildings will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected,” the school said in the letter. “The purpose of closing the school is to decrease contact among students in order to lessen their risk of getting sick and to limit the spread of infection.”
Residence halls will reopen Sunday at 3 p.m., the school said.
