Illinois AG, Feds Sue Dish Network

Lawsuit claims Dish violated Do Not Call list

A lawsuit accuses Dish Network of violating the national Do Not Call Registry, but the satellite TV provider denies any wrongdoing.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan joined the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice and several other states in the lawsuit.

It alleges that the company has made thousands of phone calls to people on the Do Not Call list. The FTC contends Dish Network is the biggest violator to date, based on the number of complaints to the agency.

The Do Not Call laws are an important protection for consumers, Madigan said. The lawsuit seeks a permanent injunction to force Dish Network to comply with the laws.

But Dish Network contends an independent audit shows that it already has the proper controls in place.
