I-80/94 Reopens in Indiana After Power Lines Down

All lanes on I-80/94 were reopened Wednesday afternoon after being closed for hours in both directions causing massive delays on the roadway.

According to Indiana State Police, the interstate was closed due to power lines being down at Chase Street in northwest Indiana.

Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) was at the scene and removed the power lines that were laying across the interstate. NIPSCO will return in the evening to replace the compromised power pole, officials said.

The entire interstate was shut down in both directions just before 8:30 a.m., with lanes not reopening until after 1 p.m. Still, authorities said drivers should expect long traffic delays on the interstate and backups in the surrounding area.

It remains unclear what caused the power line pole to go down.
