Hundreds of Clowns to Gather at Northbrook Convention

The convention features circus builders, performances, and lectures from professional clowns on topics including balloons, facial expressions, costumes and comedy magic

There’s going to be a whole lot of clowning around going on in Northbrook this week.

The 2014 World Clown Association Convention will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Northbrook from March 25-29.

The convention features circus builders, performances, and lectures from professional clowns on topics including balloons, facial expressions, costumes and comedy magic.

“Sadly, there is a misconception that clowning is not a serious business,” Norm B., marketing director for the World Clown Association, said in statement. “Some people think that buying some costume off a rack at a department store will make them funny. A real clown starts with a heart that wants to bring joy to people.”

A report from the New York Daily News claims that circus folk fear a national clown shortage is near, but officials at the WCA say that claim is “as exaggerated as our big shoes.”

The WCA hopes that this year's convention will prove the strength of the clown population. Clowns from around the world will join together in suburban Chicago in hopes of spreading “cheer and kindness.”
