The 2013 Chicago Auto Show is revved up for a drive to help the homeless while driving down the cost of admission to the annual event.
Visitors who bring three cans of food between Feb. 13 and 15 will receive a coupon for half off regular admission, according to the 2013 Chicago Auto Show. All the food will be donated to A Safe Haven, a program that helps the homeless become self-sufficient through phased housing, healthy lifestyle, and employment.
"Chicagoans are able to see the world’s most innovative car models by donating to America’s most innovative community development model, based right here in Chicago," said co-founder and president of A Safe Haven Neli Vasquez-Rowland.
Regular admission for the event is $12 for adults, but donating the specified amount of canned goods will knock down the price to $6. To take advantage of the offer, bring the cans to A Safe Haven's booth to receive a coupon to purchase the tickets at the discounted rate, the event's website stated.
Over the past 16 years the annual event has collected over 300,000 pound of food, according to 2013 Chicago Auto Show General Manager Dave Sloan.
The 2013 Chicago Auto Show is scheduled for Feb. 9 - 18 at McCormick Place.
