How to Not be Annoying on Facebook

A while back, CNN -- and many other publications, in fact -- ran a piece called "the 12 most annoying types of Facebookers".

When it comes to mapping this onto entrepreneurs, the one type of user you don't want to be, but might not be sure how to avoid becoming, is the "self-promoter."

CNN certainly didn't invent this label, but you know the type: They do nothing but talk about their own projects and accomplishments and frequently dip into humblebrag territory. (That's where brag about something without even realizing it, like, "I'm so exhausted from my trip to Tokyo. I need another vacation!")

So how do you hustle your business on Facebook without being super annoying about it? Constantcontact.com has the answer. Well, kind of. As it points out, "there are no hard rules, only guidelines… because the answer varies based on who your audience is."

A good guideline constantcontact.com recommends is to think of posts like meals: Only post three times a day, and to keep your diet balanced by making one post use a photo, another a video, and another a link. And don't just post them for no apparent reason -- explain why you're posting and what sort of action you want your audience to take.
