‘Troubling News': Holy Name Cathedral Collections Missing After Alleged Trespassing

Two people were seen trespassing in the offices of Holy Name Cathedral and the religious institution believes the offense is related to missing offertory collections, authorities confirmed Tuesday.

The church, at 783 N. Wabash Ave., released a statement Tuesday night asking parishioners to “please say a prayer” over the “troubling news.”

“While researching a shortfall in offertory collections, the leadership of Holy Name Cathedral discovered evidence of repeated criminal trespass at the Cathedral offices,” an additional statement from the Archdiocese of Chicago reads. “At this time, we do not know the extent of the loss, but we are conducting an audit of collections and will report on our findings.”

Chicago police say a representative reached out on April 20 to report two males observed entering unauthorized areas during the evening hours on multiple occasions in March and April.

Detectives were continuing to investigate.
