South Side Catholic School Closed After Copper Wiring Stolen Twice in One Week

A Catholic school on Chicago’s South Side was closed Tuesday after copper wiring was taken from the building twice in less than a week, officials said.

Holy Angels in the city’s Bronzeville neighborhood was closed after staff arrived Tuesday morning to discover there was no electricity in the building. ComEd determined the copper wiring was stolen again, a Chicago Archdiocese spokeswoman said.

“This is the second time the copper wiring at the school was stolen,” Anne Maselli, communications director for the Archdiocese of Chicago, said in an email. “The first time was last week (Friday), which resulted in one day of school closure so repairs could be made.”

The school was closed so repairs could be made Tuesday.

School officials said they hope to have the school open for class Wednesday morning.

Chicago police say they are looking for several suspects in relation to the theft.
