Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is scheduled to attend the 49th Annual "Salute to Labor" Chicken Fry on Monday in the Quad Cities.
The Labor Day event, which is hosted by the Rock Island Democratic Party, will also include speeches from Sen. Dick Durbin, Reps. Tammy Duckworth, Cheri Bustos and Dave Loebsack, Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs and Chicago City Clerk Susana Mendoza.
The picnic’s special guest is Chris Kennedy, the son of former U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy. The Chicago businessman’s name has been floated as a potential Democratic challenger to Gov. Bruce Rauner in the 2018 gubernatorial race.
“I look forward to coming to the Quad Cities on Labor Day to join the chorus of voices expressing appreciation for the men and women of organized labor,” Kennedy said in a statement. “Working families are not only the engine of our economy but the heart of our communities throughout Illinois."
This year, the picnic is honoring IBEW International President Lonnie Stephenson and UAW President Dennis Williams, both of whom started their labor careers in the Quad Cities.
“We are excited that our traditional salute to labor will include an excellent, all-star line-up to help us say ‘thanks to the working men and women of this region,” Rock Island County Democratic Chair Doug House said in a statement.
