High-Speed Chase, Shooting, Crash Injures 4

CHICAGO (STNG) -- Four people were hospitalized -- two with gunshot wounds -- when a van and Lexus crashed after a possible gang-related shooting early Friday in the Northwest Side's Dunning community.

The van slammed into the Lexus around 1:55 a.m., sending it crashing into two homes in the 3700 block of North Oak Park Avenue. After the driver of the van crawled out of his vehicle, he told witnesses that someone in the car shot him, so he chased them.

Both vehicles were speeding prior to the accident and shots were fired, witnesses later told police.

One person was taken in good condition to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with gunshot wounds to the arm and leg, and one person was taken in serious condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with a graze wound to the right hip, police said.

Two other people were hospitalized in serious condition, but it was not immediately known if they were shot or injured in the crash, police said.

Genders and ages were not immediately available, but all the victims are adults, police said.

The shooting appears to be gang-related, police said.

Grand Central Area detectives are investigating.
