High School Security Director Charged With Theft

Niles North employee resigns after felony charge

Niles North High School’s security director resigned Monday after being arrested by the Skokie Police Department last week and later charged with one felony count for the theft of school property, the Pioneer Press is reporting.

The director, Jim DiJohn, had worked for District 219 since August 2000. It was unclear how long he held the security director position.

District 219 isn’t providing any further details, school officials said, pending an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Skokie Police Department.

A statement released Friday by District 219 said DiJohn had been suspended without pay. On Monday, he officially resigned.

Skokie Police Chief Anthony Scarpelli said the department would share information about the arrest on Tuesday.

The director of security supervises security staff at Niles North. Responsibilities include overseeing school security around the clock, maintaining safe movement of the students on school grounds throughout the day and at extracurricular activities, maintaining the lock and entry systems, staff and student swipe card systems, student lockers and parking.

DiJohn also oversaw the district’s residency verification program.
