Hey, Jerry! Thanks for Listening

Jerry, we don't know what to say.

Back in October, the Bears were coming off their disastrous loss to the Redskins. Not even halfway through the season, Jay Cutler had been sacked 27 times. We suggested -- OK, we begged -- you to take a close look at a lineman from Wisconsin. We argued that his size and skill would make him a perfect fit for the Bears line.

Gabe Carimi continued to impress us. His Badgers only allowed 14 sacks on the season and went to the Rose Bowl. He won the Outland Trophy for the nation's best offensive lineman. Next, he turned heads at the NFL Scouting Combine with his unfettered confidence and skills. We heard that you liked Carimi, but so much information is leaked out before a draft that it's hard to know what's what. Mike Tice, whose son played with Carimi at Wisconsin, jumped onboard. Mock drafts started to suggest that Carimi wouldn't be on the board, but we kept the faith.

Sure, we suggested other OLs, but let's face it. Carimi was our choice. A Midwesterner? A Big 10 man? Someone who could convert 100 Packers fans to the good side? This is a man who belongs in navy and orange.

It all culminated with the Bears picking Carimi in the draft. Jerry, you listened to us! You like us. You really like us!

(Now, it's totally possible that you picked up on Carimi from Tice, Mike Martz, your cadre of scouts or your own smarts, Jerry, but we're going to stick with the theory that you picked Carimi because Grizzly Detail suggested it. Thanks, Jerry!)
