Cops Pull Men From Burning Car After Crash

Men were trapped in the Chevrolet Aveo after crash

Two Chicago police officers early Friday morning pulled two men from a car that burst into flames after a crash on the city's Southwest Side.

Officers Peter Gurskis and Hector Fuentes, of the 8th District, were southbound on the 5700 block of South Kedzie Avenue at about 1 a.m. when they saw a car heading northbound cross the center lane and crash into a truck.

The Chevrolet Aveo burst into flames, and the driver and passenger couldn't get out because they were trapped, Fuentes said.

"We were just hoping we got these guys out in time because we knew it was going to be a while for fire [officials to arrive]. If they were trapped in there, it would have pretty much been a lost cause for them," Peter said.

Two two men were transported to Mount Sinai Hospital where they were listed in stable condition as of 3:30 a.m.

The driver of the truck was not injured, and it wasn't immediately clear why the driver of the Aveo lost control.
