Chicago Spots to Give Out Free Gas Thursday

Drivers need to have the 'Shop Your Way' and 'GasBuddy' apps to capitalize on the offer

Chicago drivers will be able to fill up some of their tanks for free Thursday morning.

'Shop Your Way,' a shopping service that offers cash back on certain purchases, and 'GasBuddy,' a mobile app that tracks gas prices, are partnering to give out $20 worth of free gas on a first come, first served basis at Circle K, 801 W. Addison St., from 9 a.m.- 11 a.m. Thursday.

To redeem the gas, drivers need to sign up for both services and have both apps on their phone, according to a press release. Additionally, the gas must go into the cars, not inside any external containers.

"We care about our members and want to make life easier, and more rewarding for them throughout their day," Robert Naedele, chief commercial officer of 'Shop Your Way' said in a press release. "With Chicago gas prices at their highest in over the past three years, what better way to honor that promise than by picking up their fuel tab?"

Gas at one River North station reached more than $3 per gallon last week and online reports said prices were even higher at other stations throughout the city.

'Shop Your Way' recently launched a partnership with 'GasBuddy,' which allows users to pay for gas through the 'Shop Your Way' app, earning 30 cents back per gallon for the first 60 days and 15 cents per gallon after that, the release stated.
