Another round of quick-moving thunderstorms tore through Lake County Wednesday morning, leaving behind several inches of rain in some spots and high standing water.
Several people needed to be rescued from their cars in flooded sections of Wadsworth, where the most rain -- 4.21 inches -- poured down, according to the National Weather Service. Beach Park, Lake Villa, Gurnee and Antioch all reported flooding.
Numerous street lights were out and several flooded roadways were reported. A Flash Flood warning remained in effect for northern Lake County until 2 p.m.
"I'm just trying to save my driveway," said resident Gustavo Navrrette. The storm left five feet of water in Navrrette's yard and a mini-lake in his driveway.
Lake County arguably bore the brunt of the summer's biggest thunderstorms. The county declared a state of emergency earlier this month and urged residents to report damage to help get state and federal cleanup support.
Storms were bad across the region. On Saturday, 6.64 inches in Glenview set a new rain record.
And it's not over yet.
Rain is expected to persist on and off through Friday with more heavy showers and thunderstorms likely early Thursday morning, according to NBCChicago's Andy Avalos. Another quarter inch or more could be added to July rain totals.
When it's not raining, Avalos, said, it will be hot with heat index values reaching 100.
Showers and thunderstorms mark the start of Friday and continue into the afternoon. Same goes for Saturday, though temperatures should begin to decline.
