Nearly two blocks were closed down in Chicago’s South Loop Wednesday afternoon because of a suspicious spill in the area, according to officials.
The hazmat response was called just before 4 p.m. and crews were dispatched to 8th and Wabash avenues.
As of 4:10 p.m. officials were investigating the scene and two blocks of Wabash were shut down.
The original report indicated the hazardous materials to be a strange box found near the cross streets, but just after 4:20 p.m. fire officials said the incident was actually related to a suspicious spill.
As of 5:00 p.m. streets were reopened to pedestrians.
No further details have been released.
