Hawks Headlines: Stalberg, Bickell's Cup Fever

Bob Verdi also talks Patrick Kane's MVP chances

As promised, Madhouse Enforcer is proud to present Hawks Headlines, a series of posts designed to track down the latest news surrounding the Chicago Blackhawks. We’ll also have random videos and stories that can be found around the web, so if you’re ever wanting to get your Hawks fix, you have to look no further than right here.

  • It’s “profile the guy who wants to make his own Stanley Cup memories” day in Hawks headlines, and we start with Chris Kuc’s profile of Viktor Stalberg, who didn’t get a chance to experience the 2010 Cup win with Chicago because he was still a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs organization (he was traded to the Hawks in the summer of 2010 in the Kris Versteeg deal). [Chicago Tribune]

  • Mark Lazerus takes the same track in his column, this one about Bryan Bickell. The winger was with the Hawks in 2010 when they won, but he only played 16 games, and so he wasn’t on the ice when the Hawks clinched the Cup on Patrick Kane’s game winning goal. He got to hoist the trophy, but the fact that his name isn’t etched on it still burns in his belly. Awesome story. [Chicago Sun-Times]

  • Speaking of Kane, Blackhawks historian Bob Verdi has a nice piece on the winger as he is mentioned in MVP talk in league circles. [Chicago Blackhawks]

  • Tracey Myers has some news for those who are fretting about the team’s chances after successive defeats to the Coyotes and Canucks: the team isn’t. Being within a whisper of clinching the President’s Trophy will do that to a team. [CSN Chicago]

  • Finally, the Chicago Wolves, long known as a thorn in the side of the Hawks, and more recently a part of the Blackhawks’ rivalry with the Canucks, is now once again sticking it to their Windy City neighbors, signing an affiliation agreement with the St. Louis Blues. [Pro Hockey Talk]
