Admit it. On the first night of the draft, when the Bears announced they were picking Kyle Long in the first round, you said, "Who?" You thought this was a weird pick by Phil Emery. (Grizzly Detail did, too.) Now that you have seen him play in two games, do you still think Long was a questionable pick?
Head coach Marc Trestman is impressed. He knew Long had much to learn. He only played one season of Division I NCAA football and missed most of the Bears' off-season activities because of NFL rules. Still, Trestman is happy with Long's practice in the short time that he has been working with the Bears.
"I can tell you from practice, and I've said it for the past week, (Long) is not making incremental increases in his play—he is really ascending a little bit quicker than that," Trestman said.
OK, enough from his coach. Are you impressed with what you have seen out of the first-round draft pick? He's shown a toughness in protecting the quarterback and athleticism in facing defenders. He also works with teammate Jordan Mills to create walls to deter defensive linemen.
