Harvey Murder Suspect Arrested in Chicago Heights

A man wanted for shooting and killing a railroad security guard more than a week ago was behind bars Monday morning.

Rashad Williams was taken into custody late Sunday night, according to police.

The Harvey Police Department said it was the tips on the suspect’s whereabouts they received that helped lead to an arrest

Williams was found around 9 p.m. in the Chicago Heights neighborhood, police said.

Harvey’s deputy chief said Chicago Heights police surveillance teams spotted the 24-year-old carrying grocery bags near 114th Street and East End Avenue.

Police said they expect he will be charged with first degree murder for shooting and killing 38-year-old Tyrone Hardin.

Hardin was working a second job as a security guard for Canadian National Railroad on Nov. 26 when police say Williams was fleeing from police and encountered Hardin. Williams then shot and killed Hardin, according to police, before stealing his car and fleeing

Williams was identified as a suspect days after the murder.
