Groupon Gives Back to Local Economy with New Promotion

It happens. You've been so busy being a good capitalist buying gifts for everyone that you plum forgot to give back to your local economy. Well, Groupon's got your back with a new promotion it just unveiled: As part of Grouponicus, the first 150,000 participants who enter their email address, zip code, and make an eligible purchase from this link from a local business to receive $10 in Groupon Bucks.

Eagle-eyed readers will recognize that Groupon is not only making forays into creating holidays, but also instigating its own currency as well. Will 2012 see us all becoming unwitting citizens of the United States of Mason? It does have a nice ring to it…

If you have questions about this deal, though, Groupon's got a relatively staid FAQ on the promotion, which kicks off with a deadpan explanation of what a "local" business is. Really. Check that out here
