Great Wolf Lodge's Gurnee location will open this summer, and we got a fresh look at what the resort will look like when it's ready.
The facility will be the company's first-ever resort in Illinois, and 17th overall location for North America's largest family of indoor water park resorts.
The lodge will feature an 80,000 square-foot water park with a boatload of new slides and attractions, will be located at 1700 Nations Drive.
Two new slides were announced Thursday, including the Double Whirlwind Slide. The attraction, the first of its kind in the company's history, will put riders through two vortexes on-board a raft before splashing into a pool at the bottom.
The River Canyon Run will also be featured in the resort, with projection effects and elaborate lighting that riders can pick as they go down the nearly 500-foot slide.
An outdoor pool was also unveiled on Thursday.
The park will only be open to guests of the resort, which will cut back on overcrowding, officials said.
"Chicago is the third largest market in the U.S. and while we are fortunate to have an established fan-base here, we believe the added convenience of having a resort in closer proximity to the metro-area will allow even more families the opportunity to experience a Great Wolf Lodge getaway,” Great Wolf CEO Ruben Rodriguez said.
Other new attractions at the park will include a kids spa, an interactive miniature golf course, and a ton of new slides, including a body slide known as “Otter Run” and “Alberta Falls,” a tube slide with high-banked turns.
New restaurants will also be part of the complex, which will feature 414 guest suites, according to a press release by the company.
