A plane making an emergency landing at Campbell Airport in Grayslake came up short of the runway on Sunday night, fire officials said.
The pilot of the plane was able to get out of the aircraft on his own and was not injured, according to officials.
According to Grayslake Fire Department Battalion Chief Jim Weidman, a single-engine aircraft was having engine trouble when it was forced to make an emergency landing at the airport.
During the emergency landing, the plane came up between 100 and 150 short of the runway, skidding through a field and across a bridge before coming to rest short of the runway.
The plane was en route to the Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling, according to the Grayslake Fire Protection District.
A small amount of fuel was spilled from the plane, according to authorities, but firefighters were able to clean it up.
The investigation has been turned over to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the FAA, according to fire officials.
