Glenview Woman Dies in Crash on Indiana Toll Road

The woman may have been sending or reading a text message when the accident occurred, police said

A Glenview woman died in a two-vehicle crash on the Indiana Toll Road Tuesday morning after she crossed over a median into oncoming traffic.

Emma Beth Pincus Hartman, 18, was driving a Jeep east-bound on I-80/90 just east of the Indiana/Illinois state line when her vehicle left the roadway. The Jeep crossed over the median, entered the west-bound lane and was hit by a semi truck loaded with bottles of liquor, according to Indiana state police. The truck broadsided the Jeep, hitting it on the driver's side.

Hartman may have been sending text messages on her cellphone or reading a message when the accident occurred, police said.

Hartman was pronounced dead at the scene by a deputy with the Lake County coroner's office.

Traffic was temporarily diverted at Indianapolis Boulevard due to the crash, but all lanes were reopened as of 3 p.m.
