Ticketed Pastor Threatens Lawsuit Alleging Racial Profiling

Rev. Michael James was ticketed while riding his bike through a construction zone June 30

A pastor who was ticketed while riding his bike threatened Monday to sue suburban Glencoe police for racial profiling.

Reverend Michael James was ticketed while riding his bike through a construction zone June 30, despite two groups of white bikers riding past the same officer ticket free, he claims.

City and police officials in suburban Glencoe met with James and his attorney Monday about the incident.

"I feel that the city owes me a public apology," Rev. James said. "That officer should come clean and tell her superiors what she did to me."

Glencoe police have said they have a zero tolerance policy toward racial bias, and say they have issued dozens of similar tickets.
