Girl, 7, Among Two Shot in Kenwood

A 7-year-old girl was one of two people injured in a shooting in the South Side Kenwood neighborhood Friday night.

The girl and a 32-year-old man were inside a car in the 4600 block of South Ellis when someone approached on foot and fired shots into the car, police said. The man was struck in the back, and the girl was struck in the arm.

The man then drove himself and the girl to the University of Chicago Medical Center, police said. The man was expected to be treated and released the same day, and the girl was listed in stable condition at Comer Children's Hospital.

No one is in custody for the shooting, and Area Central detectives are investigating the incident.

A police source said the male victim is a documented gang member and a convicted felon.
