We're not big fans around here of the team in Green Bay. After playing them for nearly 100 years, a deep-seated rivalry was bound to emerge. But a story from Redskins general manager Bruce Allen proves that Bears fans arrived at their hatred and disgust in an honest fashion.
When Allen's father George was coaching the Bears, a young Bruce met Bears founder and owner George Halas. It was Halas who taught the young Allen his first cuss word.
“‘You can only use this word on a really bad person, someone you really hate or who did something very, very bad,’” Halas said, according to Allen. “He then made me acknowledge that I understood, to which I responded: ‘Yes, Coach!’ After what seemed like the longest minute ever, he turned around and said one word with an intensity that I had never seen: ‘PACKER.’ And then he added: ‘Don’t tell your mom I told you!’”
Halas was smart to put up safeguards around the awful word. No parent would want to hear their child just say the word with reckless abandon. In fact, Grizzly Detail apologizes for using the word in a post, but we deemed it necessary for news purposes.
