Garfield Park Conservatory is a Must-See For Spring

Spring is here. Finally.

Ok, so maybe it’s only technically spring for those of us who reside in the Chicagoland area but many are breathing a sigh of relief just to say that winter is finally over, technically. However, because Chicago can be a late bloomer this time of year and you might need actual evidence of it being the spring season, it’s worth the trip to make your way to the Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago’s neighborhood of East Garfield Park.

Through May 10, the conservatory is having their Spring Flower Show: Sun showers showcasing hundreds of beautiful flowers bursting with spring colors and plants including orchids, camellias, azaleas, hydrangea, orchids and the ever popular, tulips.

And if the sights and scents of the thousands of blooms don’t put a smile on your face, just walk into the show house and you’ll find it appears to be raining bright yellow umbrellas which are sure to help melt your winter blues away.

For Earth Day on April 22 the Show Room will have its official re-grand opening after being almost completely destroyed by the hailstorm of 2011.

Whether you’re looking to sit on a bench with a book to escape the concrete jungle while admiring nature in full bloom or you’re looking for a fun and educational activity to do with the family, the Garfield Park Conservatory has something for everyone.

Activities for children and workshops for adults are available throughout the week as well.

This hidden piece of paradise is easy to get to on the CTA Green Line and less than five minutes from the Eisenhower Expressway.

Admission and parking is free though donations are always greatly appreciated. Hours vary so be sure to check their site before heading out. For more information, click here.
