As Chicago prepares to say goodbye to beloved police Cmdr. Paul Bauer, more details were released about the day of his funeral.

After Saturday's services at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, a funeral procession will begin at the church, through the Bridgeport neighborhood, to the cemetery where Bauer will be laid to rest, the Office of Emergency Management announced.

The procession starts west from the church in the 600 block of West 37th Street, then heads south on Halsted, east on Pershing to I-90/94E, then to I-57 south to 111th Street to Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on 111th in Alsip.

Traffic control aides will be deployed along the route.

"He's looking down from his rightful place in heaven," Fr. Dan Brandt, the Chicago police chaplain, said.

A wake for Bauer will be held from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday at the church, and his funeral takes place at 10 a.m.

"As Superintendent of Police, I encourage all Department members to join in paying tribute to Commander Paul R. Bauer at the funeral services," Supt. Eddie Johnson said in a statement.

Parking was restricted in the blocks around Nativity through 4 p.m. Saturday in preparation for the services, and blue ribbons were passed out around the neighborhood in Bauer's honor.

Cmdr. Bauer was shot to death while assisting a tactical team in “apprehending a suspicious person” at the Thompson Center in downtown Chicago on Tuesday afternoon.

His death has been ruled a homicide, and a suspect has been charged in the murder.
