Fumes From Mixed Cleaning Chemicals in Marquette Park Home Sends 6 to Hospital

Six people were being treated for inhaling noxious fumes after someone mixed cleaning chemicals in the basement of a South Side home.

Authorities were called about 7:45 p.m. to a home in the 6600 block of South Albany Avenue in Marquette Park, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman said.

People within the home were trying to clean the floors, and let off noxious fumes after mixing chemicals in the basement, the spokesman said. It was unclear what the chemicals were.

Two children were among six people taken to Holy Cross Hospital for treatment, the spokesman said. They were listed in good condition.

Multiple other people at the home refused medical treatment, the spokesman said. The scene was ventilated and cleared an hour later.
