The cause of a freight train derailment remained under investigation Friday evening, hours after it shut down a busy intersection two miles from Chicago's busy Midway Airport during the busy morning commute.

No injuries were reported, but several cars of the train carrying office equipment to California appeared to be off the tracks. A double car partially hung over a bridge at 47th Street and Archer Avenue.

The incident happened about a half-mile north of Orange Line trains, which were not affected. Metra Heritage Corridor trains were briefly halted for the derailment. Police and fire crews closed 47th and Archer between Kedzie and Pulaski for nearly five hours.

A crane was brought in to upright two containers and an engine towed the cars away.
