Freezing Rain, Snow Headed for Chicago

First up, sunshine and mid-40s melt last week's snow

Chicago gets a break from the cold Monday before another round of snow moves through town.

Patches of sunshine and temperatures reaching the low to mid-40s in some spots should melt the rest of last week's six-inch snowfall. By Monday evening's rush hour, though, light rain turns freezing, and fog could hamper visibility as temps dip back to the low 30s.

Be careful on your way to work on Tuesday. A rain-snow mix is expected to turn to snow near dawn in Chicago, leaving behind at least an inch or two during the morning commute.

Wednesday returns to low 20s with sunshine. Those seasonable temperatures stick around for the rest of the week with light snow possible Thursday and Friday.

Last week's first significant snowfall of the year tested the city's winter response team with about six inches. Hundreds of flights were canceled in and out of town and Thursday evening's rush hour saw a few accidents, but Mayor Rahm Emanuel's new plow tracker kept up as Chicago's full fleet managed the storm.
