Classic Movie Screenings Coming to Navy Pier in August

"Ferris Bueller's Day Off" is scheduled to open the series at 8 p.m. on Aug. 6

Chicago will soon host more free summer movie screenings with the opening of "Movies at the Pier" at Navy Pier in August.

Every Thursday from Aug. 6 to Sept. 10, a movie will show at the Pepsi Skyline Stage. Starting with "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," the list of films moves from one classic blockbuster to another.

The following movies are scheduled to play each week: "Top Gun" (Aug. 13), "Ghostbusters" (Aug. 20), "The Goonies" (Aug. 27), "Caddyshack" (Sept. 3) and "Jaws" (Sept. 10). The August movies begin at 8 p.m., and the September ones start at 7 p.m.

Like the city's annual "Movies in the Park" series, admission is free and open to the public. Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Guests are not allowed to bring their own food and beverages to the Navy Pier showings, unlike the "Movies in the Park." There is a concession stand on site, however.

To celebrate the opening of another summer movie series, the first 100 guests at each Navy Pier showing will receive a "unique giveaway" based on the movie playing that night.
