Tenant Facing Eviction Pulls AK-47 on Landlord

Bond was set at $50,000 for Frank Johnson

A South Shore man who was about to be evicted pointed an AK-47 rifle at his landlord on Tuesday, officials said.

Bond was set at $50,000 for Frank Johnson, 54, who was arrested at his home on the 2000 block of East 72nd Street.

The landlord went to the home to discuss the eviction and told police Johnson pointed the weapon at him.

Officers went to the home and ask Johnson if he had a handgun, police said. Johnson reportedly told officers he didn't have a handgun but did have a rifle. That rifle turned out to be the AK-47.

Johnson was also found to be in possession of extended magazines loaded with 400 rounds of ammunition for the rifle and 36 rounds for a .357 handgun, police said. No handgun was found at the residence.

Johnson was charged with one count each of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of ammunition without an FOID card.

The sheriff's office said Johnson is due back in court on Jan. 15.
