Former Chicago Cubs catcher David Ross is coming out of retirement, but fans may not want to rush to their closets to pull out their jerseys just yet.

On Sunday afternoon, Ross sent the Twitter-verse into a frenzy when he posted a tweet that said he was coming out of retirement:

Despite the tweet, Ross is not preparing for a return to the big league diamond. Instead, Ross announced that he will be playing for the Kansas Stars in the National Baseball Congress World Series, which will take place in Kansas City later this month.

Ross will join a roster that features several former big leaguers, including pitcher Jeremy Bonderman, who pitched for the Detroit Tigers and Oakland A’s in his big league career.

Ross replaced former Kansas City Royals pitcher Jeremy Guthrie, who dropped out of the Series with an injury. Former San Francisco Giants hurler Tim Hudson was also slated to pitch for the Stars, but it doesn’t appear that he will be able to compete as he continues to rehabilitate an injury.

The World Series gets underway on July 29 in Kansas City, according to the organization’s website.
