Former Chicago Bear Killed in Bicycling Accident: Report

Dyko, originally from Champaign, was drafted by the Bears in 1989

A former Chicago Bear was reportedly killed in a bicycling accident in Florida last month.

Christopher Edward Dyko, 48, was killed while biking along U.S. 1 on Sugarloaf Key during the afternoon hours on Dec. 28 after being struck by a vehicle, the Keys News reports.

Dyko, originally from Champaign, was drafted by the Bears in 1989 after playing for Washington State. He played in eight games with the Bears that season, according to NFL.com.

Keys News reports the driver allegedly left the scene of the crash and returned a few hours later when he was taken into custody. Neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to have been a factor in the crash.

Domingo Javier Veloso, 88, reportedly faces a felony charge of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in serious injury or death and misdemeanor failure to stay in a single lane after he allegedly drove into the bike lane.
