Another new food festival is on the horizon in Chicago, but this one has the backing of some big-name stars in the national culinary world.
The first annual Chicago Food + Wine Festival hits the city Aug. 28 to 30. Tickets for the event, which is held in Lincoln Park, went on sale Tuesday.
Food & Wine magazine, C3 Presents and Chef Tim Love, of well-known western cuisine restaurants in Texas, collaborated to produce the festival.
In addition to showcasing Chicago chefs and restaurants, the three-day summer festival will feature world-class chefs, sommeliers, cocktail experts, culinary personalities and musical acts. Festival-goers can sample wine and cocktails from local and regional artisans, taste signature dishes from 40 Chicago chefs and watch interactive cooking demonstrations, among other activities.
Chicago will not be the only city to host the Food + Wine Festival. The festival takes place yearly in other cities, such as Austin and Nashville, too. But this is the first year the event hits Chicago.
"Since the first time I had dinner in Chicago, I have loved the culinary diversity, energy and spirit of this city's unparalleled restaurant community," said Chef Love, whose restaurants include Lonesome Dove Restaurant Bistro, Woodshed Smokehouse and Queenie's Steakhouse.
To help prepare for the inaugural event, festival organizers have appointed an advisory board comprised of famed Chicago chefs, including Jimmy Bannos (Heaven on Seven, The Purple Pig), Rick Bayless (Frontera Grill, Xoco), Graham Elliot (GE Bistro), Tony Mantuano (Spiaggia, Bar Toma) and Art Smith (Art and Soul, Table Fifty-Two).

Those who wish to attend can purchase tickets for the entire festival, for certain days or for certain events. All attendees must be 21 years of age or older.
