Hundreds of Flights Canceled at Chicago Airports

Hundreds of flights were canceled at O'Hare and Midway airports throughout the weekend, as snow and freezing rain moved through the Chicago area.

O'Hare International Airport reported that 262 flights were canceled Sunday, while another 28 flights were canceled at Midway Airport, according to the Chicago Department of Aviation.

Delays at both airports were listed at an average of 32 and 25 minutes, respectively. [[407361326, C]]

A plane also slid off the runway at O'Hare early Sunday, according to police and United Airlines. Flight 441 from Orlando turned to taxi upon landing around 1:10 a.m., and one of the tires went off the pavement, a spokesperson from United said. No injuries were reported and passengers were bused to the terminal.

These problems for travelers came as a Winter Weather Advisory was in effect across the Chicago area through 6 a.m. Sunday, as a second storm system in as many days brought more snow.

Following the snow, a Wind Chill Advisory was issued from 6 a.m. Sunday through 10 a.m. Monday as arctic air moved in, with up to 25 mph winds and highs in the single digits once again. Wind chill values could be as low as -15 to -25 degrees by Sunday afternoon and into the evening.

Highs are set to gradually warm throughout next week, with temperatures returning to the 30s by Wednesday.
