Flames Shoot from Steeple as Blaze Breaks Out in Humboldt Park Church

Officials said the fire was mainly located in the steeple of the church but no injuries were immediately reported

Flames could be seen shooting out of the steeple of a Humboldt Park church Tuesday morning, sending smoke billowing through the area.

Firefighters began battling the extra-alarm blaze around 8:30 a.m. at the Salvation and Deliverance Ministries International Church at West Pierce and North Spaulding Avenues.

Officials said the fire was mainly located in the steeple of the church but no injuries were immediately reported.

According to their official Facebook page, the church said there was no fire damage to the rest of the building nor the stain glass windows or structure.

"Because the structure is so well built and is a historic landmark, the steeple is still attached but will have to be removed," the page said.

The cause of the fire was not known at the time.

In the meantime, services will be held at the west suburban campus in Oakbrook Terrace.
