Extra-Alarm Fire Destroys Mansion in Barrington Hills

The fire was difficult to put out because there were no fire hydrants in the neighborhood

An extra-alarm fire started by a burning tree branch destroyed a massive home in northwest suburban Barrington Hills Saturday evening.

A neighbor told the (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald that the people renting the home were burning leaves when a tree branch ignited and fell onto the garage, sparking the blaze.

The 8,000- to 10,000-square-foot home was severely damaged.

Firefighters said the fire was difficult to put out because there were no fire hydrants in the neighborhood.
