Fire Causes Millions in Damage at Suburban Restaurant, Officials Say

The fire broke out at a McDonald's in the 1000 block of North Lake Street, police say

A fire that broke out at a suburban McDonald’s location caused $2 million worth of damage to the structure, officials said Friday.

The fire, which occurred in suburban Aurora on Thursday evening, broke out at the restaurant in the 1000 block of North Lake Street just after 4 p.m.

Fire officials say that construction crews were welding inside the building as part of a renovation project when nearby insulation caught fire. The crew tried to extinguish the fire, but was unsuccessful, and workers were forced to evacuate and call the fire department.

Officials say that it took fire crews over five hours to bring the fire under control, and that there were no injuries to anyone involved.

The status of the renovation project was not immediately known.
