Historic Ink: Chicago's Field Museum Gets A Tattoo Shop

The Field Museum’s newest exhibit is taking the concept of a souvenir to a whole new level.

Throughout the next six months, visitors can book an appointment to get a live tattoo done at the museum’s new tattoo shop. The shop will open its doors on Oct. 21, and is meant to accompany the museum’s latest exhibition, "Tattoo."

Six guest artists will be available for appointments on select weekends through April 30, including Lance Lloyd of Taylor Street Tattoo and Tina DeFiore of Black Oak Tattoo. Customers can choose from 42 different designs inspired by natural history. All tattoos are priced at $250, which includes museum admission.

"Tattoo" explores the global phenomenon of tattooing around the world throughout human history, shedding light on the historical and religious meanings behind the often misunderstood art form.

Appointments are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. All six artists are currently booked, but you can join the waitlist online at fieldmuseum.org.
