Man, 71, Charged with Bank Robbery in Chicago's Loop

A 71-year-old man has been charged with robbing a bank in the Loop over the summer.

At 9:52 a.m. July 18, Marvin McNeeley stepped up to the counter at the Chase bank branch at 35 W. Wacker and said, “This is a robbery,” according to a federal criminal complaint filed Aug. 26 in U.S. District Court and recently unsealed.

The teller was surprised and said, “What?” according to the complaint.

McNeeley replied, “This is a robbery. I will shoot your friends. Give me the money,” according to the complaint. As the teller began to open the drawer, he demanded 100s, 50s, 20s and possibly 10s.

The teller gave him the cash and he left the bank, according to the complaint. The teller turned and told the manager what happened.

McNeeley got away with $2,120, according to the complaint.

Police got several tips identifying the robber as McNeeley, a Chicago resident, which they forwarded to the FBI, according to the complaint. An FBI agent compared NcNeeley’s state identification photo to the surveillance photos and determined they were consistent.

On July 21, an agent interviewed someone who identified McNeeley as the robber and said he had been planning to rob a bank for about a month, according to the complaint. The person knew how much McNeeley got away with in the robbery.

McNeeley’s cellphone records also show he was in the area of the bank during the robbery, according to the complaint.

Additionally, two of the three bank employees identified McNeeley as the robber in a photo array.

McNeeley had his initial court appearance in August, according to the FBI.
